Weekly Goals- Attend one group/one private/one practice every week.
- Schedule time to come to the studio and practice alone
- Arrive at your lesson 20 minutes early to change your shoes, listen to the music and practice your latest step or technical skill
- Determine whether you want to practice a step or a technique
- Take notes in your journal immediately after each class
- Buy a journal and carry it in your dance bag
- Buy a dance bag and carry it around with you everywhere
- Listen to ballroom music daily
- Search for ballroom inspiration daily
- Search for youtube dance videos
- Confirm your lessons for the next month
- Establish a Standing Appointment
- Review your goals from last week - did you accomplish them
- Try to add an additional dance or movement form - such as belly dancing, stretch or yoga, to help condition and discipline your body in a different way. We've specifically chosen to offer these classes to enhance your ballroom learning experience.
Monthly Goals- Attend every studio party offered
- Attend every practice session - you'll be the best social dance you know
- Plan your competitions and showcases for the month ahead
- Review your chart! Look four blocks ago, four pages ago. See how far you've come!
- Count how many times you've actually attended a studio event - try to improve that number next month.
(Think about it - you pay each week or month to dance. To skip a scheduled party, banquet, formal dinner dance or party is a shame. These are organized for you to practice more, dance more, have more fun and try out your new skills. They will help your dancing as if you took 5 lessons that night! Sign up! No partner necessary!
Yearly Goals- Plan at least 2 level passings per year
- The are: 1) Social Foundation 2) Preliminary Bronze 3) Intermediate Bronze 4) Senior Bronze 5) Final Bronze 6) Preliminary Silver, etc
- As a rule, you should schedule an exam or level passing every 4-6 months or 50 lessons.
- Attend both Upper Montclair Formal Parties (May and December)
- Perform at least once
- Compete in at least one of every level of competitons - Inner Studio (February), Intra-Studio (January and June), Regional (March, August and November) and National (April, July, October).
- Invite your friends to the studio - plan to have at least 2 guests
- Keep your showcase lessons and your bronze/silver lessons separate (don't let your social/competitive dancing slip when you're preparing for a show
- Decide how many classes/privates a week you'll attend and then do it.
- Don't skip your group classes! Learning new steps will keep you motivated, inspired and growing
